Dirty Chai (Fast)

Make this by the pot, it’s great!  I like both coffee and tea, but tire of them quickly. I never tire of the taste of this 1/2 coffee and 1/2 tea mix . I hope you will enjoy it as well! You will need:

  • Automatic coffee maker
  • 4-6 individual green tea bags – depends how strong you like, I use 5
(or equivalent loose leaves in a tea ball).
  • Ground coffee for 5-6 cups of coffee (I use 6)
  • Water for 10-12 cups of coffee/tea (I use 10)
  • Spices (these are the same ones from Marsala Chai)
1/2 teaspoon each of these spices:
  • Ground Cinnamon (Dalchini)
  • Ground Nutmeg (Jaiphal)
  • Ground Clove (Laung)
1/2 teaspoon each of these spices:
  • Ground Ginger (Adrak)
  • Ground Green Cardamom (Choti Elaichi)
  1. Add the spices into basket first, then add coffee grounds.
  2. Place tea bags/ball into the coffee pot itself (tie them together, then loop under the handle to prevent them falling into the pot)
  3. Add water to coffee maker (enough water for both the tea and coffee); brew.
  4. Pour cups of dirty chai and add cream/sweetener to taste.

Sidenote: you can experiment with the spices.
Some people reduce the clove to 1/2 tsp since it is a strong spice. Some replace the cardamom with cinnamon (and vice versa) because the spices have a similar taste. Cost in USA for cardamom is high, while in Asia it is more affordable.
